Mountain Soles has been providing high quality resoling and repair services on boots and other outdoor sports footwear since 1979. Mountain Soles founder, Bill McKinney learned how to make and repair boots from boot maker John Newberry in Southeast Portland. Bill started Mountain Soles in a garage and within a few months moved into the back warehouse of the local outdoor store Oregon Mountain Community.
In December 1999 we purchased Mountain Soles, and moved the business during a snow storm, to a single car garage in Southeast Portland. In October 2001 we purchased Entropy Custom Sewing from Jeff Kuhns, and merged it with Mountain Soles, eliminating the name Entropy. At this point we took over the garage next door. At the beginning of August 2002 we moved out of the garages and into a great retail location on SE 12th in Portland, allowing customers to come directly to Mountain Soles.
After 10 years at our retail location we decided to reformat the business at the end of 2012, and moved back to a non-retail location so that we could free up more time and focus on getting work done on our own schedule. At this point we also reduced some of the services we offered including the elimination of footwear resoles, choosing to focus on sewing and snowshoe related work.
The folks at Mountain Soles are not only gear repair specialists, they are also outdoors enthusiasts who use the very gear that they seek to restore to its original function. We are Rock Climbers, Kayakers, Cyclists, Tele Skiers and Outdoor Adventurers who enjoy keeping our customers gear functioning, and out of landfills.
